Residency

Different minds, one question

Twice a year, the Residency brings specialists from different fields to Qatar to work together on one question, hosted by partners across the country.

How it works

Each residency starts from a question that matters to how we live, learn and imagine, not from a discipline or a brief. CAI invites the people best placed to work on it, often people who would rarely share a room: an artist and a clinician, a craftsperson and a data scientist.

Residents work alone or in mixed teams, hosted by a museum, heritage site, studio or lab. A residency can last from a few days of workshops to up to a year, wherever the question needs. There are two core residencies a year, in spring and autumn, and each one leads to an outcome.

For its first years, the Residency is by invitation. Over time it will open to proposals through the Open Call.
